Shakespeare Workshops in Seaford
Presented by Dirty Footprints Theatre Company
When?: 19th, 20th, 26th & 27th July, from 2.00pm till 6.00pm
Where?: St Lukes Church Hall, Seaford
Cost?: £40 per person for entire course or £20 per person per weekend
Through drama games and exercises, the workshops are aimed to give everyone a clearer understanding of a Shakespearean text whilst enjoying the beauty of the literature and discovering a character to play with. If you have ever wanted to gain a professional viewpoint of an Actor’s Shakespeare or if you can’t get enough of his inspiring plays then now is your chance to enhance your knowledge! Do not worry, previous acting experience is not a necessity, you just need lots of enthusiasm, plenty of imagination and you will definitely need to book yourself in for these workshops!
A selection of short scenes from ‘The First Folio’ (the name given by modern scholars to the first published collection of Shakespeare's plays) will be available for you to choose from, some of which you may already know. However, during the workshops you might find it easier to take on a character suited to your personality, your own age and gender, but there is no restriction as to which one you decide to embrace. Your chosen text will be worked on during the afternoons (min. commitment 2 afternoons) to give you time to develop it through becoming familiar with the character, the words, the emotions and all that Shakespeare gives the actor in his text.
There is no need to learn the dialogue by heart and there is no open performance at the end, just the pleasure to present your scene to your fellow students and to make yourself more familiar with the great Bard’s works.
The workshops are limited to 20 people per day and priority will be given to those who have booked for the whole course, however it is possible to only book 2 afternoons as this is the minimum commitment we require. The course will be split into two groups to accommodate all levels. The workshops will always start with a short warm-up before the class is divided into 2 teams (with one tutor each) to enable maximum working time per text.
